Making a Difference in Our Community Deputy Frank Huber Saves Mentally Disturbed Man
|
|
In September of 2004, Deputy Frank Huber was working as part of the Sheriff's Department Civil Warrant Detail in Simi Valley. During his shift, he saw a man illegally smoking drugs. When he approached the man to question him, the man pulled out a gun and put it to his own head threatening to shoot himself. Fearing for his life, Deputy Huber drew his own gun in self-defense and attempted to negotiate with the man who was mentally disturbed. Six hours later and after Hostage Negotiators arrived on scene, the man surrendered his weapon and the incident ended peacefully. In October of 2004, Deputy Huber was given a special Resolution Award from the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for his bravery and professionalism which prevented the shooting of a mentally disturbed man. Read the Resolution here. VCDSA is proud of Deputy Huber for his work in preventing what could have been a violent incident. |
