2015 Scholarship recipients announced!
The VCDSA Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2015 VCDSA Scholarship Awards. As in the past, the committee members had a very difficult time reaching their final decisions due to the outstanding qualifications of all of the applicants. A total of twenty-one applications were submitted and nine $1,500 scholarships were awarded.
For the third year in a row, two of the nine scholarships were made possible by a generous grant from the Ventura County Credit Union. We are very grateful to VCCU for partnering with VCDSA to expand our scholarship awards so we can provide financial assistance to a greater number of deserving students. VCCU also assisted our Scholarship Committee in evaluating all of the applications and two of the nine were selected for special recognition by VCCU.
As is customary, the winners were selected based upon a blind review of applications, meaning that the identities of the applicants were unknown to the committee members. The selection criteria is based upon academic standing and performance, participation in school, athletic and outside activities, community service, overcoming of personal obstacles, and quality of application essay.
All twenty-one of the scholarship applicants have remarkable credentials, and their many admirable traits and successes make them true standouts, each in their own unique way.
